1. Do your best to relax. Feeling anxiety’s approach can bring on tension, and that’s only going to increase the feeling of panic. Try to focus on breathing slowly and steadily and thinking only of the breathing. Work at making your breathing even and slow; this will help slow your heart rate.

2. If you can, find a place along a wall where you can lie down. Lie with your backside near the wall, and bend your knees with your feet against the wall. Using one foot at a time, press into the wall, breathing in as you press. As your release the foot from the wall, breath out. Alternate you feet. This should take about 15 minutes for the feeling of panic to leave.

3. Focus on something other than the past. Look at shapes and colors, even the skyline outside your window, anything to take the focus away from the upsetting thoughts of the past.

4. If you have a pet, put your focus on petting or taking care of it. If you don’t have a pet, consider getting one. They have an amazing way of requiring that you take care of them, meaning your focus will be redirected from the anxiety causing thoughts to their care.

5. Investigate aromatherapy. There are a number of scents that have a calming affect, most notably lavendar. Try visiting a local shop and test the effect each scent has on you.

These are just a few of the ways to relax ourself and use natural methods to avoid those feelings of anxiety, or to stop them before you go into a full blown attack.

10. Be gracious. Gratitude is extremely powerful, and remembering to say thank you for even the littlest things can be a powerful positive change. Expressing gratitude is much more pleasant than expressing frustration, and it will eventually begin to replace the negative habit of complaining that we all get into some times.

9. Improve your sleeping habits. One of the best things that everyone can do to improve their well-being is to moderate their sleeping patterns. If you do this for a few weeks, you will find positive improvements in your overall health and productivity.

10. Breathe mindfully. The process of mindful breathing is a form of meditation; however it is also a great way to get more oxygen into your blood and tissues. If you start right now and pay attention to how you are breathing, it is more than likely that you will find yourself breathing quite shallowly. This is not a healthy breathing pattern. You can start out by just inhaling completely and then slowly exhaling completely. If you take one minute to just do this focused breathing each day, you will find that you feel better during that minute. And, you will catch yourself paying attention to your breathing several times throughout the day. If you are stressed or tired, take a minute out of your day to breathe mindfully.
